management and leadership standards

The management and leadership national occupational standards (NOS) are benchmarks of good practice essential for effective management and leadership.

They can be used by employers and individual managers for a range of purposes. For example:

• recruitment and selection
• performance management
• identifying learning and development needs, and
• career planning

The Management Standards Centre (MSC) is the Government recognised standards setting body for the management and leadership areas. The new standards, which were approved in May 2004, describe the level of performance expected in employment for a range of management and leadership functions/activities
